-I have spent over a decade in roles that are highly regulated and regularly critiqued by the public
-I have spent 4 years working a role that included policy review and revision
-I have a blue collar perspective to modern issues
-My personal inspiration drives me to help Poudre School District succeed
My Inspiration to Run:
In May2023, I learned that my daughter had been abused by a staff member, Tyler Zanella. In total, 11 victims were identified in that case, and prior to the plea deal, the final tally was 164 counts of child abuse related charges based primarily on 3 months of security footage.
I had questions about how this could happen and started searching for answers. The answer I got: Poudre School District had a wide variety of concerning activities that allowed this to happen. Parent and staff complaints had been ignored. Policy had gone unreviewed. Members of leadership demonstrated various forms of apathy and retaliation. Most concerning was the attitude that child abuse by staff on the clock is an issue of personal responsibility, a belief that our Superintendent repeats to this day when questioned about the multiple staff arrests for child sex abuse related charges that have happened in the last 2 years.
I believe that parents send their children to school expecting they will be safe, and that Poudre School District has a responsibility to meet that expectation. My goal is to help Poudre School District meet this standard so we can flourish in the areas that we should be able to prioritize.
